The National Pharmacy Association has announced its board has two new members following elections.
Mike Hewitson (pictured) returns to the board to represent England members with fewer than five branches nearly seven years after resigning from it in protest at the appointment of Nitin Sodha as NPA chair, who was then a director of the wholesaler Lexon.
David Thomas will represent NPA members in Wales. Both he and Hewitson join 10 other board members who will serve from April 2025 to March 2027.
The other board members are Baldev Bange, Sukhi Basra, Ashley Cohen, Sanjay Ganvir, Salim Jetha, NPA chair Nick Kaye, Aisling O’Brien, Sanjeev Panesar, Olivier Picard and Sehar Shahid (Scotland).
Kaye welcomed the new members to what he described as “the dynamic, diverse and determined national leadership of independent community pharmacy”.
“This is a highly challenging period for the entire sector, so it’s great that the board is of such calibre and passionate about supporting and representing independents across the UK,” he said.
“At the same time, I want to acknowledge the work of our distinguished departing board members, who have given so much of their time and expertise to help steer this organisation and maintain its century-long position at the beating heart of independent community pharmacy.”
